tonight i’m writing you a million miles away…

ok so let me catch everyone up to speed.  i’ve been down here now exactly one month. overall, nothing too exciting has happened, but a lot has gone on.

The apartment I live in is pretty small, but I’m trying to make it more “mine”.  The only thing I am missing is a nice chair or love seat to sit on and watch tv.  Other than that, I have a nice table, big tv, desk (which I put together myself) and a bed. I still don’t have internet in my apartment.  Not that it’s a huge deal, I just go to the library and use the computers there.

My apartment is in a pretty convienient location though.  It’s about a 13 minute walk (20 or so if I walk slow) to the chemistry building, library, etc., a 10 minute walk to the gym and to church, and then about a 5 minute walk to the grocery store.  See, this is real awesome for me, because I don’t have a car! Not that I mind really, I’m just so used to driving everywhere.  I guess the walking is good though, I’ve already lost 12 lbs, which is pretty awesome.

I hate cooking in my apartment.  Mostly, I just hate using the oven.  Everytime I have tried to use it, within 2 minutes of me turning it on, the smoke alarm will start beeping.  Usually, this wouldn’t really bother me. But since I live in a box, it is mega loud. Oh well. It even went off when I was making toast.

I’ve been going to classes for about 2 weeks now. I think this is going to be a good semester.  So far my classes aren’t too bad, but we’ll see what I say in a few weeks.  I also started TA’ing last week for general chemistry labs.  I don’t think that will be as terrible as I originally thought.  Also, I’m excited to start my research rotations (tomorrow)! I’m working on a really cool project in my first rotation, and hopefully the research will work and go as I hope (fingers crossed!) I guess I just want to keep busy to not think about how far away I am from home (too far, ahah).
